Meet Dr Sebastianus Kwon

Dr Sebastian Kwon completed his medical education (MBBS) at UNSW, graduating with Honours in 2001. He then undertook training in General Surgery and became a Specialist in 2009 when he obtained his Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS).

Dr Kwon then undertook an additional 3-years of sub-specialised training in Upper-GI and Bariatric Surgery with ANZGOSA, graduating in 2013, where he completed multiple surgical training fellowships domestically and abroad at leading training hospitals. These included completing Fellowships at John Hunter Hospital (Newcastle), St George Hospital (Sydney), Seoul National University Hospital (South Korea), Cancer Institute Hospital (Japan) and the Royal Victoria Infirmary (UK).

Dr Kwon specialises in laparoscopic (“keyhole”) minimally invasive surgery and adopts many pioneering technologies. He utilised the On-Q Pain Relief system with hernia surgery with reduced post-op pain and length of stay in hospital, and the tack-less mesh fixation technique with groin hernia repair to reduce incidence of post-surgical chronic pain. He also routinely uses Narrow Band Imaging and magnification in endoscopy, allowing for targeted biopsies.

Dr Kwon is a dedicated father of 5 children (and one in heaven) and enjoys playing tennis, swimming and fishing. He works as an Uber driver for his kids on weekends.
